Sujeeva Home – Batticaloa
We have opened a new « Sujeeva » home in Batticaloa. A large house has been rented for 5 years and already 17 girls have been installed. This project will be managed by « Koinonia » a local NGO. Mr Anton Stanislaus, director of Koinonia whom we have worked with before, will be responsible for the children. Most of the girls that have come to the Home have been sent by the « Probation Service » due to the seriousness of their situation. Luckily, Mrs Selvi, our housemother at the Sujeeva home in Trincomalee, chose to go to Batticaloa to prepare and run the new Home. She quickly established a wonderful family atmosphere, something that is so important for the children.

St. Cecilia’s Girls Hostel – Batticaloa
The St. Cecilia’s College in Batticaloa is a government run school with 1900 students. We now only sponsor a few girls at St. Cecilia’s Hostel, due to the very much increased costs of housing girls here,

Koinonia – Batticaloa
Koinonia is a small local Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) which provides assistance mainly to rural areas. The district of Batticaloa has one of the largest numbers of widows (estimated at more than 5000) and many of the children living in remote villages suffer from malnutrition and have no access to schooling. There is also another problem; young children were handed to wealthy families as domestic help and unfortunately there has been a considerable amount of abuse. Some of these children are now at school in Batticaloa. They live in Homes run by Father Paul a psychologist. Other children and those from the village of Santhively are being taken care of locally. The 50 houses in that village were burnt to the ground in 1995. 20 houses have been reconstructed for the most affected widows and families. We have given our help to this project. We currently help more than 50 children and students through Koinonia.

Sujeevan Boys Home - Batticaloa
This home for boys was opened in the emergency following the tsunami, and it already hosts a dozen boys most of whose families have been victims of the tsunami of 26 December 2004. This house is rented for 2 years, the time needed for families who have lost everything to rebuild their homes and for us to assess the situation and find the best solution for each of them. We made emergency repairs on the interior and exterior, however, by limiting investment.
It is also Mr. Anton Stanislaus who is responsible for the new home opened in March 2005.
