Marian’s Hostel - Trincomalee
At this Home, the pupils have to pay. They form a part of the St. Mary’s College, a Government school which has about 1300 pupils from infant school to A-Level. About 100 of these live in the Hostel. Some of them come from very poor and difficult backgrounds and consequently we have sponsored girls since 1994. We also cover the costs of their clothes, uniforms, school taxes, etc.
In 1996 we gave the Hostel 40 bunk beds as well as mattresses and pillows. We also constructed two lavatories and a shower. In 1999 we gave 40 more beds. The costs of staying at the Hostel have risen considerably and now we only sponsor about 10 young girls.
